Some days I feel like I have a 10 year old little lady and not an almost 4 year old little girl! You do such amazing things on a daily basis and I love watching you figure things out. This past weekend we went to daddy's school and chose a couple of stars off the gift tree so that we could go shopping for another chiild. You chose stars that asked for a lalaloopsy doll, jeans and a sweat suit after much discussion. Initially when we were talking about the items on the stars you kept relating it all back to you and talking about how you weren't going to get rid of your dolls or how you were going to keep your clothes so that Lily could wear them. Finally you seemed to understand the point of the exercise and the rest of the day you kept asking when we were going to go shopping for the little girl so Saturday night you and I went to Target and after much debate and distraction you picked out the needed items. It is so important to me that you learn philanthropy early and think about others. We are so fortunate and not wanting for anything and while I don't ever want you to feel guilty about the things that we have I certainly don't want you to take for granted how much stuff we have. It breaks my heart that children ask for clothes for Christmas because that is the only time that they get new clothes and I want you to understand the importance of giving back to the community and helping others. You really seemed to enjoy picking those items out so we'll see if this is an experience you remember.
We have been doing a lot of shopping lately and the other day at Target (yes, we spend too much time there) we went passed the little girls clothes and you wanted to stop and look at dresses for you and Lily, however, we didn't have time that day so I explained that someday we would take Lily to Grandma's and you, Daddy and I would go shopping for her Christmas present. At first you resisted because you said that you wanted to go to Grandma's with Lily, however, you then went on to say that Lily had been your present. I was a little confused because you were changing subjects from buying presents for Lily to her being a present so I asked what you meant and you then said "when she was born, that was my present" which absolutely melted my heart!
