Since Lily came home we've been adjusting to a very different baby than Julie was. The biggest thing has been dealing with Lily's reflux which we noticed when we first came home and she was extremely irritable after feedings and spitting up. When we went to her 3 day doctors appointment Lily's weight was 6 lbs 13 oz which was a significant drop from the 7 lbs 4 oz she was born at so we scheduled a follow up weight check for 3 days later to see if she had started gaining more weight and if she was more comfortable after her feedings. When we went in on Thursday (she was 6 days old) she weighed 6 lbs 14 oz and was still irritable so Dr T prescribed prevacid to be given daily and mylanta to be given during extreme bouts of irritability. This last week we went in for another weight check and I'm so proud to say that Lily weighed 7 lbs 9 oz which was a more significant gain than they had expected. The goal is 1 oz a day and she has gained almost double that! We still have some bouts of irritability but for the most part Lily is much happier and sleeping better. She will probably be on prevacid until she is at least 6 months old, perhaps older. Most children can stop taking prevacid when they begin eating solids in an upright position because the reflux is minimized in that position.

Julie is showing much more interest and acceptance of Lily. She often interacts by talking with her and "petting" her hair because it is so soft. Julie held Lily once this week and was very proud of herself for being so gentle. There are times when she struggles with the fact that I can't help her or interact with her while feeding Lily but all in all I've enjoyed watching Julie and Lily begin to bond. Earlier this week Julie told me that Lily will be her friend like Sofi and Tony are, which just melted my heart. This week Lily lost her umbilical stump this week and when I showed Julie her belly button she covered her mouth, gasped and said "that's amazing" which was such a sweet reaction.
Now that Lily has lost her little stump we were able to give her a real bath today which was so much fun. I love giving them baths at this age and watching them just hang out in the water.
