What a week it has been! I didn't see Julie much a couple of days this week and I feel like it has been months, so much has changed. Her new thing is this power rock. It seems like she thinks that if she rocks (throws herself) back and forth enough she will get what she wants or where she wants. It is quite comical and also difficult to describe. I'll see if I can't get a video and load it here. She is also better and better at grabbing onto things and putting them in her mouth ... everything in the mouth. Last night we were at dinner at Gary handed her a straw. Try as she might she couldn't it turned the right way to go in her mouth so she eventually just gave up and threw the straw back on the table.
Thursday night I went and picked up Great Grandma Lawatsch in Sterling Heights and brought her back to Lansing. On Friday night Great Grandma, Grandma, Daddy and I went and saw the Broadway play Wicked while you stayed home with Grandpa. I had a great time talking with Great Grandma. I asked her how she and Great Grandpa met and she said it was pretty much a blind date. Her friend was dating his brother (or else his friend, but I think his brother) and they introduced them. She talked about going on dates to Belle Isle ... not something you would do anymore. We talked about our upcoming trip to California and she told me about their vacations. Grandpa is one of 5 boys and since they didn't have a lot of money for vacations they would go camping. She described how they would take two tents and put them face to face. In the area between the two tents they would open the flaps and create a walk through area. They would also put their picnic table under the flaps if it rained. They would then sleep the three older boys (Joe, Gary, John) in one tent and the younger ones (Jim and Ron) in their tent. Last spring Great Grandma went to Florida with Grandma and Grandpa and that was the first time she had been. Julie, you are so blessed that we can travel the way that we do and I hope that in many, many years you can tell stories to your grandchildren (or their spouses) of the traveling that you did growing up and as an adult.
Today Julie and I went to Katie Schroer's wedding shower. I've been friends with Katie since middle school, which means it has now been longer than I can even keep track of. I am so excited to see her happy and can't help but remember our wedding. This year is 5 years since we got married. I always knew that we got married young but this year is cementing that for me. Almost everyone I know is either getting married this year or engaged to be married in the next couple of years. It sure is different from a couple of years ago when we were among the only people from school who were married. Now we are the first ones to have a child which means that in 3-5 years everyone else will be having kids. We'll probably be having our second at that point!
