Every Thing On It

Growing up I loved to read Shel Silverstein and this year for Christmas I received a copy of his last book which I recently began reading. I decided to try it out on Julie one night and she now asks for it a few times a week, often just saying "can you read that one book". I am really enjoying reading it with her and find that it prompts some interesting conversations and while everything has been age appropriate I do find myself skimming ahead on each page to make sure I'm not going to open myself up to a discussion that I don't want to have! I am trying to remind myself to take it all in and enjoy these nights with her sitting on my lap reading, even if she is looking at the picture on the last page and asking questions about that instead of the poem we are reading, because she won't always find it cool to sit and read poems by a guy her mom loved when she was growing up.
