Today you turn 4 months old and I can't even believe it! The time has gone so quickly with so much of it being a blur and, while there are moments that I would rather forget, I would do it all over again for one of your smiles. There is nothing better in my day than when you look at me and give me one of your big cheesy grins.
You've got a cold right now and are definitely a little more grumpy than usual (and I say than usual because you are a grumpy baby, no way around it), however, you still have moments of being such a doll. Today that happened when you and I came back from shopping and I went to change your diaper. I heard you farting when we were at the store but assumed that was all you were doing since you had pooped yesterday (and you have only been pooping once a week lately), however, when I pulled off your pants I saw that you had done quite a number on your diaper. As I looked up at you I was greeted with a HUGE gummy grin that seemed to say "I'm so proud of myself" and "Gotcha mom" all at once. I began attempting to clean you up and was quickly thwarted when you reached down and put your hand in it ... ick! So, we cleaned up your hand and then dad pinned down your arms while I changed your diaper. Mind you, this isn't the first time we've had to pin down your arms while changing you, although last time it was your sister pinning down your arms while dad changed your diaper. I took a picture of it because the whole scene was so absurd ... my 3 year old pinning down her sisters arms for a diaper change. This scares me though when I think about what it is going to be like when you get older because you do love to move around during diaper changes and I have a feeling it is going to get worse as you get older.
Since the purpose of this blog is to document the little moments let me also address your farting ... sorry, if I've already brought it up and embarrassed you, however, I have NEVER known anyone to fart like you. And it isn't just the amount of the farts or the noise (which can be quite embarrassing in public because people assume it is us and not you) but the smell is like nothing I've ever known before. You have the ability to clear a room with a fart, however, you usually let them rip at moments where you have a captive audience and we have nowhere to go for fresh air. For instance, the other night you started farting while nursing which resulted in dad fanning the air in front of me to try to provide some fresh air so I didn't puke on you or pass out. And it isn't just one fart, oh no, you continue to let them loose every few minutes. I really hope that is something you outgrow or else you are going to have some explaining to do at sleepovers.
You are really close to rolling over and have even done it a couple of times, however, you tend to panic once you've rolled over and don't seem all that sure about it. The couple of times I have seen you do it your face immediately takes on a look of "what just happened" so I've been trying to roll you around when we are playing so that you get used to that sensation. You still have to figure out how to get your arm out of the way but I don't think that will take you all that long.
So, let me wrap up by saying Thank You for being my daughter and reminding me of the joy of watching a baby learn about her world. You are so unique and while you will forever be compared to your sister it is because that is all I have known, however, I appreciate that you do everything in your own time and I can't wait to see your personality develop. Already you are so different than Jules and I love being caught off guard when I see you do something and remember how she used to do it. I also love watching the way your face lights up when Jules is talking to you or playing with you and seeing the way her face lights up and hearing the joy from her when you smile at her or giggle at her. I hope I can keep those memories front and center while you two grow older and undoubtedly annoy each other and whine to us about the other. I love you Lily bug!
