Last night you gave your father and I a great reminder of some of the joys of parenting, but first, let me back up... yesterday was your 24month appointment with Dr T and you've been excited about going to the doctor ever since daddy went last week when he was sick and over the weekend told you that you would be going to the doctors which upped the excitement. So, Monday night when we were getting you ready for bed you kept asking about the doctors and reminding us of all the things you wanted him to look at like the scrape on your knee and your ears and arms and everything else. Tuesday morning I took you to Marcie's and reminded you that I would be there later to pick you up for the doctor and you asked why? I followed that with my standard response that he wants to look at you to see how well you are growing and make sure mommy and daddy are doing everything that is needed to help you grow (shame on me, I know, but I left out the part of the immunizations you were due for).
As it turns out you are growing quite well - you are in the 77th percentile for height and the 15th percentile for weight. Your weight is consistent and you've made quite a surge in your height. You did really well at the appointment, especially considering we had to wait over an hour in the exam room for the doctor. To pass the time you drank a lot of water and because the only cups I could find in the room were little dixie cups you were really excited to be drinking out of a cup with no lid. When Dr T came in you weren't all that excited to see him but put up with the poking and prodding and even gave him a high five when he was leaving. Next up was the nurse with the immunizations which didn't go as well but you calmed down quickly as you always have and said bye-bye as she was leaving the room.
When we got home it was really nice out and daddy was grilling chicken so we went outside with him and you were excited to play with "your car" which is the little tykes car you got in the fall. Because we don't have a lot of paved driveway you are sort of limited with where you can go but there is enough room for you to get a good head of steam and roll down to the bottom part of the driveway, however, you need help getting back up! You decided that you would allow mom and dad to take turns pushing you around the driveway and were telling us when it was our turn - thanks dear!
After dinner you were playing around with your baby dolls and your new stroller while we were doing dishes and everything was just fine until you came around the corner and vomited all over the dining room. This is the first time we've been in this situation and it freaked you out a little bit so I grabbed you and tried to hold you still until we were sure you were done vomiting and then tried to keep you out of the mess. We sprang into action quickly and your dad got the dog outside (because she had just finished her dinner and wanted to inspect this new surprise) while I took off your clothes and got you into the bathtub. After your bath you were feeling fine and we got you to bed with no problem. You were fine today and I am sure it was just a side effect of the immunizations.
So, as I said the whole incident was a reminder of the joys of parenting!
And I just asked your dad for any stories to add here and he told me about an exchange you have been having when he picks you up from Marcie's. The other day you noticed the bird poop on his truck and asked what it was so he told you it was bird poop. Your response was "bird poop" followed a few seconds later by "truck?" as you tried to wrap your mind around this concept. Today you asked him what it was as you were leaving and then answered yourself with "bird poop?"
