Yesterday was Mother's Day and you did me proud by waking your father up at 7:00am. As he got out of bed to go get you he asked me if I had paid you to get up that early on the weekend. Um, NO, that's when we get up every weekend. Without ever planning it the tradition has become you and I getting up in the morning and starting coffee, feeding Chloe, Bella and Thumper and then getting daddy up. Yesterday though was a nice break! One thing you'll learn about me as you grow up is that I LOVE cards. For special occasions your dad only has to get me a card and he knows that I'll be happy. Well, this year I was given what your dad termed "the worst card ever by the worst present ever". I have to begin with the story of the worst present ever ... for my birthday in 2004 (my first birthday after we were married) your father got me a label maker. Things wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the fact that I had not asked for a label maker AND he didn't wrap it up, instead he just handed me an office max bag. Oh, your daddy! Things were also made worse by the fact that I did the polite "oh, I like it" and then proceeded to complain about it to our friends, who made fun of your daddy, thus busting me. Over the years we have made MANY jokes about the worst present ever and how it is used constantly in this house. Which brings us to this Mother's Day. As I laid in bed your father took care of you and then brought me coffee, donuts and the newspaper in bed. He also brought me my "card" which was a label on my coffee mug that said "Happy Mother's Day". He joked that it was the worst card ever made with the worst present ever, however, I must say that it was a very sweet card! I tried to get a picture of you holding my "card", however, you were really more interested in the contents of my cup (it was empty). The rest of the day we sort of putzed around and took it easy. Grandma Lawatsch came over for a little while so I could run out and do a few errands and finish shopping for Jessica's shower next weekend.
